Rugby: Leek recover to clinch narrow success
LEEK rattled off their fourth straight home win as their fitness and spirit saw them through to a 16-12 victory over Spartans in Midlands Two West (North).
Sam Hunt kicked them into a 6-0 lead, but Spartans hit back with a converted try for a 7-6 half-time advantage.
Coach Ian Gittens earned his corn at the break and Leek, needing a quick score to get them going, duly obliged.
A line-out on the five-metre line was caught by Simon Drew for a barging run to the line, but it was Tom Sims picking up and crashing over after providing excellent support.

A series of rucks then transported Leek to within five metres of the Spartans line and a quick tap penalty from Dan Needham left Ad Nettel stinging the visiting defence with a fine score.
Spartans gnawed away at Leek's lead and scored a try, but the home side's kicking and defending were enough to withstand any late pressure.
