North Staffs Roller Kats (NSRK) are a newly formed Roller Derby team and the first in Staffordshire!
We are recruiting women and men 18+ to join us in this fun, energetic, fast paced amazing sport!

We also are looking for referees on skates and (NSO's) Non-skating officials.

At NCHS Science College, Gallowstree Lane, Newcastle-Under-Lyme, Staffordshire (Next to Dick Turpin Pub).

WHAT IS ROLLER DERBY?
Roller Derby is a fun, women and men's full-contact sport. Players wear quad skates and protective padding, helmets and gumshields, and often hotpants/shorts, legwarmers/knee socks, team vests/tshirts etc.
The players skate around a track for a number of 2 minute 'Jams'.
During a Jam, there will be 5 players from each team on track. There are 3 positions taken by the team members:
1 Jammer- This is the point scorer
3 Blockers- These are defence players in the 'Pack'
1 Pivot- A defence player in the 'Pack' that acts as leader to direct the others
The aim of the game is for the Jammer to score as many points as possible by getting through the 'Pack', consisting of both teams' Blockers and Pivots, and lapping as many of the opposite team members as possible. Each pass scores a point.
Blockers/ Pivots are there to stop them. That's where the physical contact part comes in!! Contact is allowed using the mid thigh to shoulder, excluding hands, elbows and forearms. Contact otherwise will result in a stop off in the penalty box!!
