Rock statue idea for legends considered
PLANS to put up statues in honour of two rock music legends are to be discussed by councillors next week.
Campaigners want Stoke-on-Trent City Council to recognise the achievements of former Guns 'n' Roses guitarist Slash and Motorhead frontman Lemmy.
The were both born in the Potteries before going on to achieve success across the world with their bands.
A petition signed by 318 supporters was presented to the city council last month and was referred to the economic development overview and scrutiny committee.

Supporters say the statues will help raise the profile of the city.
A spokesman for the campaigners wrote to the committee, saying: "We firmly believe it could be a landmark that is really quite individual and exclusive to the area, and would definitely be a popular attraction for fans of rock music worldwide."
A report to the scrutiny committee said officers are willing to work with the campaigners, but would not be able to offer any funding.

“I love rock music, but I have to agree with Sanity, pothole and other problems need sorting first, thank you very much.
By the way Slash- real name Saul Hudson has always said that he was born in West Hampstead. His mother was Ola Hudson, a U.S costume designer who, after Saul's birth worked from David Bowie. His father was artist Anthony Hudson, who worked on album covers for the likes of Neil Young and Joni Mitchell.
Lemmy, by the way, was born in Burslem but moved to North Wales at the age of 10 in 1956.
As for Murdoc, look pal, it's a CGA effect, although Demon Days is one of the best albums of the last 10 years, come on now.”

“Actually, Slash wasn't born in Stoke he was born in London and moved to Stoke when he was a young child. He moved to L.A at around 11.
It's an interesting concept, and don't get me wrong I'm a fan of both artists, however, aside from the odd namecheck I fail to see what either have done for our city.
Incidentally, Murdoc of the Gorrilaz was born in Stoke as well so in the spirit of fairness should also be honoured!”
