YOUNG musicians have been given more time to sign up to a countywide rock competition.

Staffordshire Performing Arts has extended the deadline for bands wanting get involved with Staffordshire Rocks.

Musicians now have until Monday to register their interest in the annual Staffordshire Performing Arts contest, which will take place in May and June.

The final, at Stafford Gatehouse Theatre, will see one band crowned Band of the Year 2010 and win an array of prizes.

Heats will be held at Thomas Alleyne's High School, Uttoxeter, and Westwood College, Leek, in May.

Councillor Ian Parry, Staffordshire County Council deputy leader, said: "I would really encourage new bands to enter as the experience will help them to develop."

Bands of any ability are encouraged to enter the competition.

They must attend school in Staffordshire, and have an endorsement from their school to enter.
