Robbie gets folk vibe rocking at the Rigger
A TALENTED young violin player has branched out and joined a band. Robbie Sherratt, aged 14, of Cheddleton, is now part of the five-piece folk rock group, Bear Foot, which formed eight months ago.
Robbie is well-known on the Staffordshire Moorlands music scene having become a regular guest at the Leek-based Cuckoo's Nest Folk Club.
The Westwood College student has also appeared at a number of festivals at the Wilkes Head, in St Edward Street, Leek.
Robbie met his fellow band members at the acoustic sessions at the Rigger, in Newcastle-under-Lyme, which he now regularly attends.
Bear Foot is also made up of Dave Dove on guitar and bass, Joey Priest on vocals and guitar, Adam Sieradzki on vocals and harmonica, and Rachel Bailey on drums.
Robbie describes the band's music as folk rock and said that they play covers as well as some of their own material.
Robbie, who was invited to join Bear Foot three months ago, said: "I find playing in a band better than performing on my own because you get a vibe from each other when you are up on stage."
Born and bred in Cheddleton, Robbie has been playing the violin since the age of six and he is about to take his grade eight exam.
He has played at a number of community events including Action West End's Fun Day, Best Of British in Leek town centre, as well as at this month's Dickensian Market.
Robbie's mum, Helen, said: "I have heard the band and they are brilliant. The band members are all like-minded musicians and with Robbie being a part of the band it has given him more confidence."
Robbie will next be appearing locally at a Christmas show at St Matthew's Church, in Meerbrook, on Saturday.
The Herbs and Leekies will be head-lining the event which includes a host of folk songs, carols and anecdotes.
Tickets are priced at £6 which includes a glass of mulled wine, mince pie and a raffle ticket. To book call 01538 300278 or 399372 or 399870.
