PRISONER accommodation and education facilities at a young offenders' institute need to be improved, according to a report.

HMYOI Werrington's Independent Monitoring Board has flagged up the issues in its annual publication.

The report says members of rival gangs have to be housed close together due to a lack of space, which is resulting in fighting.

Plans to build a new education block have been abandoned due to a lack of cash. However funding for a new reception centre has been granted.

“How on earth can "rival gangs" exist in prison. Could the governor need replacing with a real hard man ?”

“The fact that it remains open suggests that it is habitable. A prison is a place someone is sent to as a punishment for their crimes,
i don't see why it should have any money (other than general repairs and maintainence) spent on it. The tax payer has to pay enough to feed them and keep them warm without spending even more money on ensuring they have pleasant surroundings. ALL prisons are overcrowded, which suggests to me that prison is no deterant for some people.”

“This is one of the problems never seen, or wanted to be seen, by an uncaring section of our society who only wish harm (and no rehabilitation) on offenders paying a debt to society.

An open prison or an overcrowded young prison, is not a soft option at all.
There is nowhere to hide or seek refuge from those intent on delivering their own justice.
    Bullies rule.

The very thought that 'rival gangs' operate within a public system, freely, and this is not considered an outrage by us, is an outrage in itself.

This story needs further inspection leaving no stones unturned and those in charge need to be identified and their accounts publicised.”

“It has been there for years and this has only just been"flagged up" is somebody going soft on them? Or will society realise the bleeders are multiplying like rats and forming gangs like they visualise in America.
RIP the victims of gun and knife crime etc.
    We have got enough problems.”

“The little swines should be breaking rocks and made to wear boxing gloves at bedtime to stop any enjoyment they might be thinking of giving themselves.”
