OFFICERS and senior councillors are to face more questions over a policy that aims to save £2 million by asking tenants to carry out their own repairs.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council approved the plans, which will see a £10,000 DVD produced to show tenants how to carry out basic repairs, last month.

But councillor Dave Conway, leader of the opposition City Independents, has now formally 'called in' the proposals.

Cabinet members and officers must now convince a scrutiny committee that the policy is legitimate at a public meeting next Thursday.

Mr Conway has described it as a "discharge of responsibilities" and raised concerns that the council will no longer be fulfilling its duty as a landlord to carry out tasks like unblocking sinks.
