Recycling load dumped at tip
COUNCIL officials sent a load of recycling to landfill after it was contaminated by soggy cardboard.
The problem was blamed on families rinsing out tins, bottles and tubs too vigorously before putting them in their recycling bin.
As a result, cardboard rotted and stuck inside machines used to separate materials.
Deputy leader Arthur Forrester said: "If we send a contaminated load to our contractors, not only do we risk a large fine, but the good work of residents is wasted as the load goes to landfill."
The council did not reveal the cost implications.
