Real ale fans toast their pub of the month
MEMBERS of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) have named their latest pub of the month.
The Potteries branch of the organisation has presented the award of June pub of the month to Benks, in Leek, which is run by Sara Bentley and her partner.
The Stockwell Street pub was formerly called The Union Inn while it was run by Brian Bentley, but was universally known as Benks's because of his nickname Benk.
Mr Bentley eventually changed its name, yet the old pub sign is still displayed in one of the boozer's corridors.

CAMRA members delayed handing over the award to the pub by a week, so that it didn't clash with Diamond Jubilee Bank Holiday celebrations.
The award was finally presented on Saturday. A spokesman praised the pub, saying: "Benks is a genuine free house."
The sporting pub, which has darts, pool and dominoes teams, usually serves three cask beers.
Its regular beer is Wadworth's Henry's IPA and it usually offers two changing guest beers from a wide range of breweries.
