On Friday night I visited the Mother town of the city, Burslem, and went to see a show at the Queens Theatre.

This show I would call the Queens Theatre Big Night Out because that's what it was.

The show was the counterfeit Bee Gees with supporting acts, comedian Barry York and vocalist Terry Jay.

The show started at 8.15, 15 minutes late due to technical problems.

First up was Terry Jay, singing the old classics, he was a bit loud with his voice echoing around the theatre, but his singing was really good, he had a powerful voice, he was on stage for an hour.

Then the comedian, a guy from Leeds, his humour was excellent, not too much rudeness, very funny.

He was on stage for an hour. At 10.30pm the Counterfeit Bee Gees came on stage.

This act was unbelievable; they looked and sounded like the real thing, even to the high notes of Barry Gibb.

They got the audience up on their feet dancing in front of the stage.

Yes I did say dancing; the theatre had been transformed to a Jollies type venue with tables and chairs in place of the usual auditorium seats.

The Counterfeit Bee Gees finished their spot at 12 midnight.

Wow what a night, a 3-and-a-half hour show and all for only a Tenner.

I would highly recommend one of these shows. The next Big Night Out is Friday 17th April with Counterfeit Abba.

“Hey, i also saw the show and really enjoyed it, the bee gees were indeed very reminiscent of the real thing and the audience's reaction was a positive and loud one.

But preceding this wonderful performance were two wonderful supporting acts. The atmosphere was set with the competent skills of Terry Jay, whom i have had the good fortune to enjoy before in a couple of our great working man's clubs in the city. His confident performance encompassed a wide variety of brilliantly sang greats; the highlight for myself being the charisma-filled renditions of those songs made famous by the late, great Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. I cannot agree with the comment on his being 'too loud' as Mr Ball suggests but i would say that his powerful voice filled the theatre and reminded everyone of the great talent we have in our city.

The comedian, Barry York, was a perfect accompaniment to these great vocal acts and held his own with a quick witted, intelligent performance which had the audience laughing out loud at regular intervals. He proved that modern day comedians do not need to be explicit or offensive to fill a venue with laughter. I have not seen him before and with his being based in Leeds i dare say i won't come across him regularly but would be glad if i did.

All in all the evening was thoroughly enjoyable the three acts complimented eachother without seeming to compete for the audience's favour. Each held their own with performances which clearly delighted the assembled local audience. I cannot recommend future shows of course (except to advise a warm coat be worn) but would recommend any of the performers from this night. If the future shows live up to this high standard, audiences will be sure of a wonderful night.
    A Nathan”
