Reach out to help refugees
VOLUNTEERS are needed to help refugees settle in to their new homes.
Individuals would need to give up five hours of their time a month to the Refugee Mentoring Service operating in Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle.
Experience of mentoring is not necessary as full training is given. The role includes listening to the needs of refugee families and helping them to fit in to the community by increasing their local knowledge, encouraging them to improve language skills and providing support so they can take up employment.
Meeting times are flexible.
Ruth Hucklesby, Refugee Mentoring Service area co-ordinator for Stoke on Trent, said: "Mentoring a refugee is a great opportunity to get to know new people and different cultures."
