RESIDENTS opposing plans for a towering wind turbine are being urged to attend a public meeting next week.

Villagers in Checkley fear the 30-metre turbine will blight the landscape and have a detrimental effect on house prices.

They submitted protest letters and a 200-name petition when the application was originally submitted.

Bill Cash MP has backed campaigners and raised the case in the House of Commons with Ed Miliband, Energy and Climate Change Secretary, and energy minister David Kidney, MP for Stafford.

Staffordshire Turbine Action Group chairman Keith Flunder said residents had no political representation in the planning process because the site is just outside the Staffordshire Moorlands District Council area covering Checkley, under neighbouring East Staffordshire Borough Council's control.

He said: "We would urge people to attend the public meeting and have their say."

The meeting will be held on Monday at Leigh Village Hall, at 7pm.
