BURGLAR Anthony Adams has been jailed for three years after admitting his role in a daytime break-in.

Adams, aged 35, together with Joseph Upton and another man, were seen looking in driveways in Leek Road, Hanley, at 1.30pm on April 27.

  1. LOCKED UP: Adams.

    LOCKED UP: Anthony Adams.

Prosecutor Fiona Cortese yesterday told Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court a witness saw one of the men go to the front of a house and the other two disappeared from his view. Five minutes later all three men were seen walking into Ivy House Lane.

The homeowner returned home to find his front door glass panel smashed. But, the court heard, nothing was stolen.

Upton, aged 36, and Adams, both of Garth Street, Hanley, both pleaded guilty to burglary.

Upton said he acted as a lookout. Adams, who has previous convictions for burglary, said he was out looking for work.

Rachel Thompson, mitigating for both defendants, said there was minimal damage to the house and nothing was taken.

She said Upton had no previous convictions for burglary and has managed to turn his life around since this offence. Miss Thompson conceded Adams has an unenviable record.

Recorder Stephen Lowne said Adams had an 'alarming disposition of breaking into people's houses' and jailed him for three years.

But he said Upton was in a completely different category and handed him a six-month jail sentence, suspended for two years, with a 12 months drug rehabilitation requirement, two years supervision and a three-month curfew from 8pm to 6am.
