I WRITE regarding the Manchester United supporter who shouted obscenities at Stoke City's Kenwyne Jones (Sentinel, Feb 9).

Do I think the punishment fits the crime? Yes, Manchester United supporter Howard Hobson deserves everything he got and more.

I would also point out that his reference to family and best mates as 'coloured' is equally as offensive as the comments made to Mr Jones.

On this same subject, and while I accept Luis Suarez did not find himself inside the court room for his racist comments to Patrice Evra, he received only an eight-match ban and a fine equating to pence compared to Hobson.

Can we therefore expect that John Terry, if convicted of his alleged abuse against Anton Ferdinand, will be equally punished with a fine and three-year football banning order? I think not.

I agree with Stoke City Fans' Forum chairman Gareth Ekin and Supporters' Club chairman Bryan Shaw that there is simply no place for racism in football and this and any other inappropriate behaviour should be reflected by the players in the game.
