Pupils plant trees to mark Diamond Jubilee
DIG IN: Youngsters extended their school orchard, with a little help from Cheshire's Lord Lieutenant David Briggs.
He visited Daven Primary School in Congleton to plant a special variety of apple tree linked to the county to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
The Lord Derby sapling was one of four trees set in place yesterday by the young gardeners at the New Street school which has just been awarded its second green flag under a programme recognising eco initiatives.
Pictured are 10-year-old pupils Sasha Cotterill, left, and Samantha Cowling.
