She added: "I'm incredibly proud. When I first came here seven years ago I remember people doubting that we could make it what it is today.

"After our last inspection we drew up an action plan of how we were going to achieve 'outstanding.'

"I think the effort our teachers put into the displays around the school particularly impressed the inspector.

"He said that around every corner of the school was another 'magical moment' for the children to enjoy."

Two years ago the school introduced an 'assertive mentoring' scheme, whereby the pupils are more involved in setting their own learning targets.

They are rewarded with stickers for excelling in areas such as attendance, good manners and behaviour outside the classroom. By collecting stickers the pupils can collect further rewards including toys and class trips.

Mrs James added: "There is a great deal of mutual respect between the teachers and pupils. The children can see where they need to improve and can target specific areas.

"We find this really works and created a solid foundation as they progress through their education."

The report said: "Pupils excellent all-round personal development and safety stems from the school's well-established and much praised system of assertive mentoring.

"This places the responsibility for learning, behaviour, attendance, punctuality and readiness to work squarely on the pupils themselves.

"It acts as a clear measuring stick for parents about their child's overall performance."

Parent governor Sarah Speakman, from Sandyford, said the school had been 'amazing' for her nine-year-old son Andrew.

She said: "The children here are so well looked after and they treat each other with amazing kindness. It's a wonderful team."

Susan Yucebas, aged 28, from Stanfields, is mum to pupils Aydin, aged seven, and Mehmet, aged six.

She added: "My two boys love coming to school. It is very important to know that teachers are nurturing good behaviour as well as educating our children."
