CARING: Pupils have

collected more than £500 to support

Haiti following the earthquake which devastated the country.

Year Eight pupils at Sandbach High School and Sixth Form College have been leading the fund-raising efforts.

Girls from Form 8B suggested donations of 20p from pupils and staff, but many gave more.

Some pupils also collected change from neighbours to contribute to the fund and staff staged a charity football match.

Emma Edwards, aged 12, said: "It was so sad to see this poor country so devastated. It is important we do what we can."

Nicki Oyler, achievement co-ordinator, said: "Year Eight's reaction has been exactly what I expected – they are a caring and compassionate group of girls and I am proud of them."

The fund has already reached £500 and is ongoing.
