BRIGHT SPARKS: Youngsters from schools across South Cheshire put their problem-solving skills to the test in an engineering challenge

.

Year eight pupils at Congleton High School hosted the Faraday Engineering Challenge Day and invited teenagers from Alsager School, Holmes Chapel Comprehensive, Sandbach School, Eaton Bank School in Congleton and Woodhouse Middle School in Biddulph.

The event aimed to get students hooked into thinking about a career in engineering, as well as encouraging them to work as a team and bring together their expertise.

The challenge was held at 30 schools across the country, involving 1,200 students aged 12 and 13.

From the schools which have taken part, three teams will be selected to take part in the national final, which will be held in London during the UK Young Scientists and Engineers Fair in March.

Stephenie Scattergood at Congleton High School, said: "The event was a big success. It was a hands-on, practical experience which the students enjoyed."

PIctured with his table tennis ball server is 12-year-old Harry Williams.
