Pub shelter for smokers
PLANS have been drawn up for a timber-framed smoking area outside a pub.
The Hand And Trumpet Inn, in Main Road, Betley, has applied for planning permission from Newcastle Borough Council for the structure, which would adjoin an existing external staircase and be located inside the beer garden.
In the application, the pub says linking the shelter to the staircase landing would be preferable to a stand-alone design.
A neighbour has submitted an objection to the plan because he is concerned the smoke may drift into neighbouring properties.
If the smoking shelter is built it will measure 16 ft sq with a ridge height of 17.5 ft. The roof will be tiled to fit in the existing buildings.
The pub is in the green belt, but the smoking shelter design is described as of modest scale.
It has been recommended for approval and planners at the borough council will make their decision in the coming weeks.
