A "NUISANCE" drunk who admitted a catalogue of shop theft and alcohol-related offences has been jailed.

Salus Price pleaded guilty to the string of offences at North Staffordshire Magistrates' Court yesterday.

The 46-year-old, of Lower Milehouse Lane, Newcastle, admitted being drunk and disorderly at Buffet Island, Newcastle on January 6; being drunk in Tesco, Hanley, on January 7; being found drunk at the A&E unit in Hartshill on January 11; and being drunk and disorderly in Greyhound Way, Festival Park, as well as the theft of earphones from Halfords on January 12.

He also admitted stealing whisky from Tesco, Hanley, on January 13; being drunk and disorderly in Princes Street, Hartshill, on January 24 and January 26; theft of steak from Tesco, Kidsgrove, on January 30; being found drunk in Navigation Street, Burslem, on February 14; and theft of jeans on February 19.

Peter Howland, defending, said his client was "a nuisance more than anything else."

Deputy District Judge Neale Thomas jailed Price for 42 days.
