Posties return to work after unofficial strike
DELIVERY staff at Royal Mail's Leek Road office have returned to work after walking out on Friday in an unofficial strike.
They went out on strike after they were told they would not be paid if they refused to cross their colleagues' picket line.

Delivery staff back at work
Processing and distribution staff at the same office have been taking official action since August 11 over plans to move their work to Wolverhampton.
Area delivery representative, Malcolm Brundrett, said: "The delivery staff have taken the view that today is the right time to return to work. However, they have offered support for their distribution colleagues."

“When will these moaning postal workers realise that nobody has any support for them whatsoever, they should have been allowed to go back to work, they should have been sacked and their jobs given to the some of the many people that have recently been made redundant and who would jump at the chance to do their jobs. I drive passed these lot every day standing outside the Stoke sorting office and it makes my blood boil when I see them making out as they are been hard done to. Stop your whinging and get out and do a proper days work for once or do us all a favour and quit.”

“Some people on here really are thick.
The postal service has been mismanaged by the fat cats at the top for years. Don't blame the workers it is not their fault.
Do people not have any pride in their local area anymore? Why should local jobs not stay local? Were these people happy when the pot banks shut and the business was moved to china?
Show some compassion to these guys who work damn hard. The service is poor due to staff shortages made by the fat cat bosses. Dont criticise the workers, they all deserve nothing but our full support.”

“Looking forward to it being run from Wolverhampton hopefully it will be much better!
These strikers need pelting with eggs as we drive past so they know what the public really think of them, the idle idiots!
Didn't Stoke-on-Trent recently *win* the award for the worst perfoming area for Royal Mail? So we've got the worst perfoming RM staff in the country and they wonder why RM want to move the work?
If they worked harder and did their jobs properly then I could stick up for them - but at the moment you just can't!
We've not had a business collection at work now for 2 weeks, we have to drive sack loads of post across the city to get it out on time. We've now not had any post delivered for 4 days.
So what are they saying? If they can't have their jobs they want to put everyone else out of business in SOT so there are no jobs out there for them!?
Sack the lot of them and move the work to Wolverhampton - then we might actually have a postal system”

“this strike has cost me money, bills not turning up either held up with the strike or as normal delivered to the wrong address, my new debit card is some where with the mass of undelivered mail. can we now claim not off royal mail but off the thoughtless strikers who have and will continue to hold the general public to ransome, i say sack them all and give the jobs to the people who want a job. people will say that is what they are on strike for, well maybe so but if they don't work with royal mail they will all be out of a job. i have totally lost faith in royal mail, post delivered to the wrong address may times. where ever i can now i use e-mail cost me nothing, quick and i know it get's there. sorry striking posties you will get no sympathy off me or a lot of other people!”

“I can't believe the public have had to go without recieving their post again! It's bad when people start to lose trust in a system that is the most important and formal part of communication throughout the world!! Disgraceful!!”

“It's very easy to say striking workers should consider themselves lucky they have jobs when industrial action is rarely such a two dimensional topic, and crossing *official* picket lines is likely to alienate you from your colleagues and friends for the rest of your working life.
However! The *unofficial* industrial action is what I find difficult to support. Why have trade unions at all if staff are going to band together willy-nilly and hold the country to ransom because they suddenly feel the *official* action wasn't enough? Given the sheer quantity of official strikes we see from Royal Mail staff on an annual basis - the likes of which we don't see from any other sector - they really shouldn't hold their collective breath in expectancy of public support for *unofficial* action.”

“I have no sympathy with these strikers at all. Half of my friends and famiy have been made redundant over the last 18 months and would like their jobs if they don't want to do them. No post for three days.”
