VIOLENCE SIGNS : A hard-hitting poster campaign tackling domestic violence has been launched.

The posters will be plastered across buses travelling through North Staffordshire.

Newcastle Safer Communities Partnership is running the campaign on vehicles owned by First Bus.

The poster will appear on 17 different buses to highlight the message that 148 people in the UK die from domestic violence each year.

Councillor Phil Maskery, Newcastle Borough Council cabinet member for safer and stronger communities, said: "Domestic violence is one of the partnership's priorities to tackle in the borough.

"The campaign aims to raise widespread awareness of this crime, challenge the secrecy that surrounds it and encourage victims to seek support."

The poster, which uses road signs to highlight the numbers of deaths caused by domestic violence, was designed by 18-year-old Newcastle College student Haley Kelly, pictured.
