Port Vale: We have enough quality to go up, says Horsfield
GEOFF Horsfield is convinced Port Vale have the talent to win promotion... even if it isn't this season.
Vale are 11th in League Two, six points adrift of the play-off zone, ahead of today's clash at Chesterfield (3pm), but may need to rebuild their squad in the summer with 17 players out of contract.

CONFIDENT: Geoff Horsfield reckons Vale are on the up.
"We have enough quality," said Horsfield. "If it doesn't happen for us this season we'll build again, work through the summer and get players in and out. There's a good enough nucleus of talent here and we have a good side that just needs tweaking.
"Like every management team we'll discuss what players we need and who we're going to get rid of, if anybody, in the summer.
"We could win six or seven games on the spin, get promoted and then you have to look at it again going up a division – you don't know what's going to happen."
A number of key players are entering the final few months of their contracts, including top-scorer Marc Richards, midfielder Anthony Griffith and goalkeeper Chris Martin.
But Micky Adams will delay all contract talks until the end of the campaign – a policy which enjoys the full support of his number two.
"I agree with what the manager has said – it shows good man-management skills," added Horsfield. "I'm not saying players should want to play because they're coming out of contract.
"Players should want to give their all when they put that shirt on – I certainly do – but some players aren't like that because they all have different mentalities.
"The gaffer's decision is that we're not talking about contracts, we're getting this season sorted out – I think that is fantastic management."
PORT Vale Supporters' Club will meet at the Leopard Hotel in Burslem on Monday (7.30pm). It is hoped a club director will attend.
