PREVIOUS MEETING

FA Cup first round – November 7, 2009

PORT VALE 1

(Yates 42)

STEVENAGE BOROUGH 1

(Griffin 90+1)

A STOPPAGE-time goal from Borough striker Charlie Griffin set up tonight's replay in Hertfordshire. The non-leaguers created enough chances to put the tie out of Vale's reach, but ultimately paid the price for their wasteful finishing.

David Bridges was unfortunate, however, when his edge-of-the-box effort came crashing back off the bar.

Vale's goal came just before half-time ... and from an unlikely source in wing-back Adam Yates, whose 30-yarder deceived Stevenage keeper Chris Day.

Vale's Marc Richards also hit the woodwork just after the break before Stevenage launched a late onslaught.

But they had to wait until the first minute of injury-time to make the breakthrough as Griffin pounced on a Mitchell Cole cross to head home from eight yards.

Port Vale: Martin, Owen, Yates, McCombe, Collins, K Taylor, Griffith, Fraser, Jarrett, Richards, Haldane (Guy, 72).

Stevenage Borough: Day, Roberts, Ashton (Odhiambo, 87), Laird (Vincenti, 80), Henry, Bridges, Cole, Bostwick, Drury (Byrom, 87), Griffin, Odubade.

Attendance: 3,999.

FORM GUIDE

Stevenage: WDWDDW

Port Vale: WDDDLL

WHO WE'D LIKE TO BUY

Mitchell Cole: The 24-year-old winger caused Vale plenty of problems on the wing 10 days ago, his pinpoint cross creating Charlie Griffin's last-gasp equaliser. The former Northampton midfielder has had a good football grounding having come through the ranks at Norwich and West Ham.

WHO TO BOO

Mark Roberts: The defender attracted some criticism from Vale fans on internet forums for his swaggering style. The glaringly blonde 26-year-old will be even less pleased with being compared to his namesake ... X-Factor runner-up Rhydian Roberts.

MAN IN THE MIDDLE

Jarnail Singh: The Middlesex official has been on the Football League list for half a decade. He was in charge of Vale's 2-0 defeat at Macclesfield in August.

PROBABLE TEAMS

Stevenage Borough: Day, Henry, Roberts, Ashton, Laird, Cole, Bridges, Bostwick, Drury, Griffin, Odubade.

Port Vale: Martin, Yates, McCombe, Collins, K Taylor, Haldane, Jarrett, Griffith, R Taylor, Dodds, Richards.

PREDICTION

Vale set up a second-round clash against Huddersfield Town with a 2-1 success, courtesy of goals from Rob Taylor and Louis Dodds, pictured.
