A PORT Vale second-string side featuring four trialists has lost 2-0 at home to Walsall this afternoon.

Vale coaches had a look over two defenders and two midfielders at the Bycars training pitches, when goals a quarter-of-an-hour from the start and a quarter-of-an-hour from the end settled proceedings.

Graham Hutchinson and Jack Deaman, both formerly of Birmingham City, played in central defence while Malcolm Melvin, from Aston Villa, and ex-Manchester City youth Bradley Robinson had run outs in the middle.

Walsall took the lead with a shot from the edge of the area from Omari Sterling.
