Port Vale: Valiants transfer list six players
by Steve Shaw
VALE boss Micky Adams has transfer-listed six of his players in a bid to free up funds.
-

Adams is keen to strengthen his squad with his own players and at this stage says the players named are surplus to requirements at the current time.
The players are midfielders Ross Davidson, Danny Edwards and Dave Howland, strikers Danny Glover and Steve Thompson, plus centre-half Luke Prosser.

The players are available for either for permanent transfers or loan deals.
Central midfielder Ross Davidson has already secured a month’s loan deal to Stafford
Rangers.
Davidson, along with Edwards and Prosser, only agreed to sign new one-year deals with the club just prior to Adams’s appointment in June.
Adams said: “I want to free up some funds to bring in some of my own players.
“I think the squad is lacking in certain areas and I don’t want to sound disrespectful to the
players we have here but I have given everybody a go in pre-season.
“These players, at this moment in time, are surplus to requirements.”

“Good to see Mickey off loading people, my guess he wants to free up salary to allow for perhaps having 2 or 3 players on load, the only question is will he be able to get anything for the guys.
At least he is making the call on players that he does not see as part of the Vale come back”

“At last we have a manager who isn't going to play 'happy families' and keep players at the club who just aren't good enough. I totally agree with the list, other than perhaps Thompson.
Davidson isn't good enough, I haven't seen enough of Edwards, Prosser is very average, Howland goes missing for large parts of the game and Danny Glover, dad or no dad at the club, is absolutely hopeless as a striker.
Well done Micky - we've had this old pals act at the club for far too long. Stamp your own authority on the team and don't let certain members of the board try and pick the team for you.”

“Why did we offer some of these players new contracts before we appointed a new manager????
How could the board make these choices themselves without consulting the new manager, we are not even talking about star players who they would have had a fair idea the manager would have wanted to keep.
Hence the words "surplus to requirements"”

“Agree with you Craig, that maybe, Thompson should be given a chance, as we have all seen has the potential to cause real upset to teams. Altough not his best season last year (then again who did have a good season), i like Howland and am a little dissapointed about letting him go but as for the rest of them, they aren't Football League players. They definately need first team football (Conference level) and their young enough to start again. Can't see anyone taking Glover on though! Let's hope Micky can get a bit of money from these guys and sign a couple of his trialists, notably Kris Taylor and Guy.”

“At long last we have a Manager who recognises what it takes to get out of this league unfortunately the six listed wont fetch any money the best we can hope for is shipping them out on a season long loan at best to Non League clubs and thats being kind.Well done Mickey.

“Superb work by Adams, we needed a big shake up and its great to see Adams actually trying to do his own thing. I agree with the transfer listed players although I think Thompson has potential when fit and a little harsh for Howland. My only worry would be who is going to come in for players like Glover and Prosser because for all their hard work are they really professional footballer's in terms of ability.”
