COUNTDOWN king Neil MacKenzie finally bowed out of the long-running TV quiz this month.

He reached the quarter-finals, but was beaten by the eventual champion Junaid Mubeen.

But the midfielder reacted to the defeat philosophically.

He said: "I suppose if you're going to lose, then lose to the eventual champion. But that didn't make it any easier because I had a bad day against him.

"To be fair, he is on another level and was by far the best player. But it was a good experience and I've got no regrets.
