YOUNG winger Ryan Lloyd could be in line to make his first senior start for Port Vale.

The 18-year-old is one of several options to replace the suspended Ashley Vincent for the home game against York City on Saturday.

Lloyd has featured four times from the bench this season, having made his debut as a substitute in a 7-2 home win against Morecambe in April 2011.

The Biddulph youngster was rewarded for his progress through the ranks at Vale Park with a two-year professional contract in the summer.

And assistant boss Mark Grew says he'd have no worries about throwing Lloyd into the fray.

"Lloydy has come on a few times season and never looked out of place," he said.

"His work rate is brilliant and he has proved he's good enough. I remember him coming on against Walsall in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and he produced two or three great crosses."

Lloyd has been linked to Vale since he was eight, when he trained with former youth development officer Bill Chetwyn.

He played in various age group teams at the club before graduating from a two-year scholarship.

One of the other options for boss Micky Adams rests on the fitness of skipper Doug Loft. He could slot in at left-back, allowing Rob Taylor to move into Vincent's midfield role, but Loft missed training on Monday and is rated only 50-50 to be fit.

"Chris Shuker has played wide left and wide right for various clubs, so he might be another option," said Grew.

Vincent, meanwhile, has been nominated for the League Two player of the month award for October.

The winger, who scored twice during the period, faces competition from Fleetwood's Junior Brown and Tom Craddock, of Oxford.

The winner will be announced on Friday.
