OLLIE Marland grabbed the only goal to send Port Vale's reserves to the top of Central League Division Two.

The striker's 76th-minute strike was enough to see the Valiants beat previous leaders Gateshead this afternoon.

The visitors had the majority of the play in a scrappy game, but it was Marland who made the difference when he swept in substitute Elliot Osbourne's cross from the right.

First-team squad members Joe Davis and Ryan Lloyd played the full 90 minutes, though young trialist Louis Tambini, from Leicester City, failed to make much of an impression.
