VALE reserves slumped to a 3-0 home defeat as Nottingham Forest were boosted by a brace from former Stoke loanee Lee Martin.

Valiants coach Andy Porter included Cheltenham Town trialist Scott Brown in central midfield.

Forest took the lead on the half-hour when striker Adam Newbold latched onto James Dunne's long ball.

Winger Martin, running down the middle with Newbold, appeared to be offside. But play was allowed to go on, allowing Newbold to collect the ball and hit his shot across goal from the right channel.

The ball appeared to be heading beyond the far post, but right-back Danny Edwards slid in to intercept, only to divert the ball into his own net.

Forest doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time thanks to Martin's deadly strike.

The midfielder is on loan with the East Midlanders, having been farmed out again by his parent club Manchester United.

After collecting the ball on the left side of Vale's box, he swept it low into the far corner, from 15 yards, giving Vale keeper Chris Martin no chance.

And with two minutes remaining, he sealed the win with another polished finish, this time guiding the ball into the top corner from 16 yards.
