PORT VALE 2

(Jones 44, Pope 58)

THE struggling Dons raced into a two-goal lead thanks to Jack Midson's early opener and a penalty from the same player after Pim Balkestein was dragged down by Liam Chilvers.

But Daniel Jones marked his debut with a stunning stroke from 30 yards out just before the break before Tom Pope levelled it after half-time with a great finish from a narrow angle.

AFC Wimbledon: Sullivan, Fenlon, Hussey, Sweeney, Balkestein, Mitchell-King, Ajala (S Moore, 54), Meades (Long, 78), McCallum (Harrison, 75), L Moore, Midson. Not used: Cummings, Jaimez-Ruiz, Prior, Yussuff.

Port Vale: Neal, Duffy, Purse, Chilvers, Jones, Myrie-Williams, Burge, Loft (Morsy, 83), Vincent (Andrew, 75), Hughes (Williamson, 75), Pope. Not used: Yates, Johnson, Shuker, Birchall.

Attendance: 3,395.

FORM GUIDE

Port Vale: WLWWDW

AFC Wimbledon: LWWDDD

WHO WE'D LIKE TO SIGN

Jack Midson: At least it would stop him hurting Vale. The striker has now scored five times in his last five games against the Valiants.

WHO TO BOO

Mat Mitchell-King: If for no other reason than the Dons captain made 51 appearances in a two-year stay with Cheshire neighbours Crewe between 2009 and 2011.

MAN IN THE MIDDLE

Mark Brown (East Yorks): Last took charge of Vale for their 3-1 win at Morecambe in August. He has dished out five red cards in 21 games this term.

PROBABLE TEAMS

Port Vale: Neal, Duffy, Purse, Chilvers, Jones, Myrie-Williams, Burge, Loft, Vincent, Hughes, Pope.

AFC Wimbledon: Sullivan, Mitchell-King, Balkestein, Hussey, Fenlon, Ajala, Sweeney, Long, Alexander, Midson, Moore.

PREDICTION

Leading scorer Tom Pope takes his season's tally to 29 goals with the double strike which seals a 2-0 victory for the league leaders.
