MICKY Adams has brushed off what he described as "hysteria" among angry fans by insisting Port Vale are still on course for promotion.

The Vale boss was frustrated by the reaction of a section of supporters to last week's home defeat by Morecambe.

A chorus of boos at the end of the game, which came seven days after a goalless draw at struggling Barnet, was followed by further criticism on the internet this week.

But the Valiants head into tomorrow's game at Torquay seven points clear of the play-off positions, with a game in hand on fourth-placed Burton Albion.

And Adams is hoping his team can bounce back at Plainmoor.

"We lost a battle (against Morecambe), but we certainly haven't lost the war," he said.

"I don't know quite where the hysteria among some fans comes from, but it goes with the territory at this club unfortunately.

"I've said it on many occasions, we're not Barcelona."The majority of supporters must be very pleased with what we've done so far this season.

"If you had asked me, the team or the vast of majority of sensible supporters at the start of the season, I'm sure we would all have taken a scenario of being two points off the top of the table with 14 games to go.

"Perhaps people build us up in their own minds to be something that we're not.

"But we certainly don't do it and I've said the same before.

"I've also said that there would be twists and turns to come, and defeats. Maybe some people might start listening to me now."

Adams insisted he and his squad remained "relaxed and focused" on the task in hand.

"In the last two performances, we've maybe done things that we have done better previously," he said.

"So I'll remind everyone of what's needed at certain times of games and of what we need to do to win games again.

"It's certainly not panic stations. We remain focused and confident that we'll bounce back, hopefully sooner rather than later.

"Fans might well say I got it wrong last week and the week before.

"But you can't please some and I'm not worried about them."I'll continue to pick the side I think is right for the club."
