Port Vale: Pensioner arrested after banana thrown on pitch
A 74-YEAR-OLD has been arrested on suspicion of throwing a banana at the referee during Port Vale's 2-2 draw at Wimbledon.
Police viewed television footage of the incident, which took place in the 26th minute of the first half, before arresting a Wimbledon-supporting pensioner.
He has been released on bail to report to police at a later date.
Football intelligence officer Sam Cunningham said the incident was not considered to be racist.

He said: "We saw the banana thrown onto the pitch and then reviewed television coverage.
"It appears a supporter was angered by a decision by the referee and aimed a banana at him. It was not aimed anywhere near any player."
Vale fought back from two down after 42 minutes to earn a point which keeps them at the top of League Two.
Left-back Dan Jones scored the Valiants' first on his debut before Tom Pope netted his 25th league goal of the season.
