And as they enter the second half of their League Two campaign, Adams declared: "I'd like to thank our fans for their support during the first part of the season, but we'll need them more than ever from now on.

"We've been backed magnificently and they've made lots of noise.

"I want them to enjoy where we are, and I want them to keep backing us all the way."

Adams also delivered a glowing half-term assessment of his team, who head to the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Stadium buoyed by a magnificent win at promotion rivals Rotherham on Boxing Day.

That result meant Vale have won 12, drawn seven and lost just four of their 23 league games so far.

And another win today will see them leapfrog leaders Gillingham, whose home game with Northampton has been postponed.

"If we can replicate our form during the second half of the campaign then we'll achieve our goals," said Adams.

"The results speak for themselves, but we're up there to be shot at now.

"Other teams have been on fantastic runs, but we can't help what they're doing.

"We have to concentrate on ourselves and prepare correctly for each game, and then our effort and enthusiasm will carry us a long way."

Winger Ashley Vincent could return to the squad today after missing the Rotherham victory with a stomach bug.

VALE will play their rearranged League Two match with AFC Wimbledon on February 5 (7.45pm).

The match was postponed last Saturday because of a waterlogged Vale Park pitch.
