MICKY Adams is backing Port Vale to rediscover their attacking instinct on the road.

The Valiants have been frustrated by the stifling tactics of opponents in failing to win their last two games at home.

But they have won four successive away matches, and boss Adams believes the run can continue at Exeter City tomorrow (3pm).

"Teams who are on their own patch have a different mindset to those who try to frustrate us at Vale Park," he said, "and that suits us.

"They are the ones at home. They've got to try to win and are keen to get people forward and take risks. That leaves space for us to go and play."

Adams was disappointed by the 1-1 draw against Dagenham and Redbridge in midweek, which followed defeat by Gillingham in their previous home game.

He says Vale have become victims of their own success with eye-catching displays, including a 6-2 home demolition of Rotherham.

"We've not been as fluent at home because teams have started to come and stop us playing," he said.

"They close down space and make it difficult for us. I would be doing the same.

"We've got to overcome that and we need a quicker tempo.

"If we can pass it quicker, it will prevent teams from getting behind the ball.

"If the tempo is not right, then we allow teams to sit deep and frustrate us."

Adams is looking forward to another tough test at Exeter, who are fourth in the table.

"They're a good side with a lot of experience, but people have seen my teams this year – we're not set up to defend.

"With the attacking players in our squad, we have to go forward.

"We're not bothered by Exeter's form. We'll play with two wide players and try to get crosses into the box, but hopefully with more quality than Tuesday night."

Defender Rob Taylor could return to the side after recovering from a virus.
