MATCH RATING

Entertainment 7

NEAL: Safe handling when it mattered, and had little chance with the Rotherham goal in the final few minutes 7

DUFFY: Brave first-half block proved crucial in a great defensive effort 7

McCOMBE: Strong in the air, solid in the tackle and some great blocks to keep Rotherham in check 8

CHILVERS: Impressive effort at the back will have done his chances of winning a long-term deal no harm whatsoever 7

YATES: Defended well and looked the part on his return to the side, even contributing an assist for the second goal 8

MORSY: Often found in the thick of the action in the middle of the park 7

BURGE: Struggled to produce his usual level of influence, but was a strong battling presence throughout 7

LOFT: Busy performance from the captain, having been pushed up into a midfield role 7

MYRIE-WILLIAMS: Threatening on the ball, but found little space in which to truly hurt the Millers in the final third 6

DODDS: Lots of industry on the left of midfield and took his crucial opener in fine style to set Vale on their way 8

POPE: The striker went close with a first-half header, made the opener and scored the second goal – his 22nd of the season 8

SUBSTITUTES

ANDREW (for Dodds, 78): Left-sided role must have seemed strange, but the striker fought hard at the end to help seal the three points 6

TAYLOR (for Myrie-Williams, 87): Fresh legs to boost the Valiants' defensive effort late in proceedings 6

Not used: Johnson, McDonald, Williamson, James, Shuker.

ROTHERHAM: Warrington, Bradley, Mullins, Arnason, O'Connell, Pringle (Cameron, 64), Taylor, O'Connor (Agard, 43), Nardiello (Odejayi, 71), Frecklington, Revell. Subs not used: Shearer, Sharps, Walker, Ridehalgh.

“BURGE: Struggled to produce his usual level of influence, but was a strong battling presence throughout 7 - who writes this rubbish when Burge set up both goals and also took the corner from which Pope almost scored in the first half. The Sentinel should be ashamed of whoever it is.”
