MIDFIELDER Paul Marshall says he is happy to continue his football education with Port Vale after agreeing to extend his one-month loan spell from Manchester City.

The Premier League outfit are expected to complete the paperwork to allow the 19-year-old to stay at Vale Park until the end of the season.

Vale are confident the deal will be sealed this morning, which means Marshall will be available for tonight's League Two home clash against Aldershot (7.45pm).

The Manchester-born youngster has scored one goal in eight games for the Valiants, following two other appearances for Blackpool earlier in the season.

Marshall said: "I'm happy to stay because I'm enjoying getting first-team football at a decent level.

"It's been a bit strange in that it's been more of a football-type of game at home, but more of a battling type of game away. from home, which is different to what I expected.

"It's totally different to the way we play at City. I have to compete a lot more here, but at City it's more about getting on the ball and passing it about.

"Since I've been here the training has been professional like at City, and it's been more professional than at Blackpool."

Another youngster hoping to make an impression tonight will be 18-year-old striker James Lawrie, who hit a wonder goal to help Vale secure a 1-1 draw against Bury at the weekend.

Boss Dean Glover was so impressed by Lawrie's performance he admitted the club could face a battle to hold on to the teenager further down the line.

However, having only made four league starts, including two goals, Lawrie is only focussed on his short-term goals.

With six games of the season remaining, Lawrie said: "I just want to play for the first team at the minute.

"Hopefully from Saturday's performance I can carry on in the next couple of games in a striker's role and keep doing well for the manager so he'll keep picking me.

"I'm not thinking too far ahead because I'm only young and I just need to concentrate on working hard to keep getting better."
