VALE boss Dean Glover fears other clubs will soon be sniffing around hot-shot James Lawrie after the youngster struck a sensational goal in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Bury.

The 18-year-old showed his vast potential by netting a 35-yard lob, his second goal in four senior league starts for Vale.

Glover said: "On that performance he has a good future. He's 18-years-old and he's already been called up into the Northern Ireland under-21s squad.

"The more games he gets, it will be a case of whether we can keep him here. With performances like that, there will be a few clubs looking at him."

Lawrie graduated from Vale's youth ranks and has more than 12 months left to run on his first professional contract.

Meanwhile, Glover has sent out an SOS to striker Kyle Perry after his loan spell at Northwich Victoria expired on Saturday.

Perry has hit two goals in seven games for the Blue Square Premier Division strugglers, who wanted to extend his loan deal until the end of the season.

However, Glover has turned down their request as Vale's top scorer Marc Richards is still struggling to overcome an Achilles problem ahead of tomorrow's home match with Aldershot.

Glover said: "We're bringing Kyle back. We have to put the club first. We have to make sure we are covered for the last six games."

Glover also revealed he intends to extend midfielder Paul Marshall's loan from Man City, which ran out on Saturday, until the end of the season.

“More great PR from Glover. We have a player who scores a cracking goal and looks like he has bags of potential... so rather than focus on that positive Deano tells us we'll probably be selling him soon. Glover out now!!!!!”

“We are where we are because we haven't kept our better players long enough.

Laurie has made 4 starts and the manager is alerting other clubs to a player that could help US get promotion next season.

    I despair sometimes!”
