VALE need to buck up their ideas if a great start to the season isn't to be for nothing.

The teams behind us for so long are now catching up after a spell of five league games without a win.

We spent far too much of this game playing too deep.

As the clock ticked round to eight minutes, 37 seconds, I feared the minute's applause for Roy Sproson would coincide with a York goal.

There seemed little energy in the side and the York City back four were put under very little pressure.

The 2-0 half-time lead was hardly merited and Vale's only sustained attack after the break came only after York had equalised.

ROB RHEAD, May Bank

ANOTHER 2-0 lead thrown away. I thought we were very poor, even when we were winning.

There were too many players who didn't perform and we certainly missed Ashley Vincent.

York shut out our front players very effectively in the second half and although we could have scored at least two in a late spell of pressure, their defence was equal to it.

We should have played the entire second half that way, but our pressure was too little too late.

At least we have Tuesday's game to try to put things right. We need to do just that as we're now hanging on to second spot by our fingernails.

If we want to get out of this division, we need some new players.

KEV WALSHAW, Cobridge

WE DIDN'T play well overall and didn't deserve to win.

We didn't push on at all after going two up.

Instead, we sat back and let York come on to us and we paid the price.

We finally woke up towards the end and mounted a spell of pressure, but it just wasn't enough in the end.

It's the second time we've let a two-goal lead slip and we need to sort it out quickly if we're to maintain a push for promotion.

“For some reason confidence seems to have been lost and unless we can get back to that arrogant dominating style we showed in the first 12 games or so we will slip to mid table by the new year.”

“2nd half the players were not there. Well they were but only in our penalty area. The last 4 minutes they suddenly realised they could go over the half way line and attack Yorks Goal. Played too deep and MA's, Grew and Page were having fits trying to get the players to go further up.”
