AT 4.30pm on Saturday I thought our season was over, before I witnessed one of the most incredible comebacks in the 40-odd years I've been watching Vale.

When we were 3-1 down we seemed to be drifting towards the inevitable conclusion, because Huddersfield were in total control and we never looked like scoring.

Once we got back to 3-3 we would surely have been happy with a draw, but then Marc Richards comes up with a cracking free-kick.

Howland's goal was fantastic and Louis Dodds once again proved he has an eye for goal. And for Richards to score his third recent injury-time winner was just incredible.

The win was important on two fronts. Firstly, we had another great away following and they were jubilant. Such a good result in the cup is great for them. Secondly, a cup run is crucial for the club because we will have picked up a decent cheque for progressing. The ultimate aim is to get to the third round and win the lottery of drawing a Manchester United.

For now, though, we've got to look to Brentford next week and improve on our home form.

WE didn't play well for 80 minutes, but still managed to win in what turned out to be a crazy game. You could never have predicted that outcome, not in a million years.

We were gifted our first goal from a poor back-bass, but they went on to dominate the game until the last 10 minutes.

Dave Howland's fantastic goal totally turned the game in our favour. Saying that, all that matters is that we've won and we're in the next round. The two finishes from Dodds were also great, and we had five good chances and finished four of them.

Davidson missed a good chance near the end, but then Richards, who had not done much, curls a free-kick into the top corner. It was absolutely fantastic in the away end when the winner went in.

KEV WALSHAW, Cobridge

THE last 15 minutes will live long in the memory as we turned what appeared to be a damage limitation exercise into a remarkable cup victory.

We started brightly and were quick to close Huddersfield down who looked disjointed and slightly nervy. It was no surprise when Louis Dodds took advantage of a poor back-pass to give us the lead.

From that point the home side started to move into gear and we couldn't quite hold out until the interval, leaving the match evenly poised.

Huddersfield were all over us like a rash from the restart as we struggled to retain the ball for long enough to get out of our own half. After they raced into a 3-1 lead,

I couldn't see a way back. Nor, apparently, could the gentlemen next to me, who decided it was time to leave. How he must be regretting his decision now.

Dave Howland's clever chip came out of nowhere and when Dodds proceeded to score again minutes later we couldn't quite believe it.

Could we even go on to win it? Marc Richards delivered the answer in stoppage time with a brilliantly-struck free-kick.

Delirium ensued among the thousand Vale fans, while Huddersfield's proceeded to leave in their droves.
