Port Vale: Ex-director rallies fans to support board bid
FORMER director Paul Humphreys has urged shareholders to back his bid to re-join Vale's board at next month's Extraordinary General Meeting.
The 51-year-old has called for the removal of the current four-man regime at the EGM, on March 13, in the wake of damaging revelations.

Paul Humphreys
Humphreys is one of six candidates bidding to join a replacement interim board, which, under the club's constitution, must consist of a minimum of four directors to function fully.
Humphreys and four of the other candidates addressed 200 fans at a meeting of the supporters club last night.
"When I was on the board I tried to make changes – I've got Vale at heart, not myself," said Humphreys afterwards.
"The majority of fans want the board to go and so do I as they've had their day."
Humphreys, who owns 4,807 club shares worth £24,035, stepped down from the board last year in the midst of Mo Chaudry's takeover bid. The businessman insists he has no desire to remain on the board in the long term and says he is favour of scrapping the club's 24.9 per cent share rule.
Humphreys also insists he would be willing to work with the current directors, including former board colleague Mike Lloyd, if he is elected and they survive the shareholders' vote... but only to facilitate new investment.
"As much as I like Mike and Glenn Oliver on a personal level they're not wanted as directors.
"We would have to work with them in the short term, but I'm pretty certain the fans would still want them out. So we would have to go to a second phase of trying to remove them again."
Vale will send out copies of the club's annual accounts to shareholders for the year ending June 30, 2011, this week along with the EGM agenda papers.
VALE reserves take on Walsall's second-string on the training ground today (2pm).

“Vale 58
For me it is about playing their cards close to their chest, so on that point we have to disagree.
What ever your view on how the SC is handling the run in to the EGM lets contrast that with how the board past and present have handles shareholders and fans. Lets look closely at last years EGM and Bill Bratts promise to provide the shareholders with the blueprint of the way forward, the blueprint never materialised, its then that even the staunchest of supporters got worried. The EGM run in ended in to much mud slinging with Bill Bratts laughable attempts at worrying shareholders that the council may call in the loan if the board changed along with Ameriturf's amazing deal that was actually nothing.
This year I think the SC have it spot on, the choice is simple, do you want to keep this lot or not, if you do then vote accordingly, its up to you.
Lets not forget the SC meetings are now packed with standing room only, they now have 1200 members, a staggering figure, fans are canvassed and polled, there are email addresses, meeting, polls, online polls all geared at giving the fans a say, Im glad you agree this is a major step forward.
The EGM is looming the choice is simple, either vote for the SC or vote to keep this lot in place, Im bot telling you which way to vote but you seem intelligent enough, not voting for the SC would tell me you may not be as intelligent as your posts suggest.”

“Lay the Vale, all the candidates` profiles will be forwarded to the shareholders by the SC in good time. At last we will see last years accounts upto June 2011, do doubt this years books will be more revealing.”

“Tisdeano – Whilst I'm delighted that we agree that we agree that we agree I am worried that complacency is setting in amongst the SC and anti-board brigade. If there strategy is purely to highlight V2001 and the current boards shortcomings and not to promote and advertise there own merits then I'm afraid that they will fail. We need a far more positive campaign from them – let each candidate tell us what value they would bring to Port Vale, what attributes they feel they have to add value to the club. Lets get them in the face of the fans – meeting them on match days would be a great way to generate both positive publicity and to quash the fears of certain elements of the fanbase who fear they are nothing more than a front for other people.
For what its worth I think they've got it wrong on both counts – at the last EGM they should have kept their cards close to their chest and they didn't. This year they need to get out and promote themselves amongst the fanbase and tell people exactly what their intentions are, instead they appear to be hiding, heads in the sand hoping they'll be elected by default.”

“by O0ohMatron "Who's this Lyn Rowe bird that the Sentinel keep mentioning? Never heard of her."
Dunno. I hope she has waitress skills – that way we have at least ONE of the interim board capable of bringing something to the table.

“Vale_58 again we agree the SC can not do enough until the board are removed, they have to stay vigilant.
This EGM is very different, the ground swell of opinion against the board is massive, Bill Bratt allowing nil paid shares upset many of his supporters and they have finally seen what an awful job he did and what a terrible job the incumbents are doing.
If of course the board wants to cheat its fans and shareholders at a second EGM and ignore the majority of shareholders and fans wishes then the season ticket sales will be very interesting.
Many people complained last year that the EGM was been played out in the media, Im glad you agree that this time it is not, perhaps thats for the best.
Quite frankly how any shareholder could vote to keep Miller, Deakin, Oliver & Lloyd on board is beyond me and they have not yet announced a single reason why any one should vote for them. [ mind you apparently Oliver and Deakin are standing down ]. The lack of messages or information of any kind from the club is shocking, in fact the way they are treating the shareholders is beyond shocking, Im glad we agree on that.”

“Tisdeano – Indeed we do both agree that the current board and previous V2001 need replacing, and good to see you also recognise that the Supporters Club is not doing anywhere near enough.
Merely sitting back – stating that they are playing there cards close to their chest and hoping people do not ask them any awkward questions is far from good enough. To state "we will get in, survey the scene and take it from their" is a mistake, they need to be more specific, need to explain what dealings they have had with other party(s) and sell themselves and state what value they would bring to the club, both individually and as a team.
On the plus side, good that they have recognized what a liability Pete Williams is and have taken him out of the fireing line. Also like the way Paul Humphreys is talking in detail, even discussing a working relationship with Mike Lloyds. More transparency like this should quash the negative rumours that the SC and anti-board group are attracting.
The next 21 days will be pivotal, not just to the anti-board brigade but to Port Vale FC as a whole. Let's just hope that they are not outsmarted for a 2nd time, the way things are going I fear that may well be the case though.”

“Vale_58 for once gets part of his statement correct, other than the now 1200 members of the supporters club [ a record membership I believe ] we need to get the message across to other shareholders. I applaud his stance that the incumbents need to be removed, he may have differing views but at least he agrees that firstly Bill Bratt and now the current board have almost ruined our club.
The board past and present were there to manage the club, they failed miserably. We only have to look at Cheltenhams profit figures to realise what an awful job Bill & Co did. Cheltenham have no where near our corporate facilities or crowds yet made a profit last financial year.

“Valiantfosse – Whilst I appreciate the removal of the embarrassing cringe worthy Pete Williams (doesn't even get a mention in this article) from the front line is a plus (by recognising the damage he was doing to the anti-board campaign and taking appropriate action has to be applauded) they rest of the candidates must realise that talking to a hanful of the converted at a Social Club on a Tuesday night will not win over the people they need to convince win power.”

“Vale 58, At least they have appeared in public and not runaway, like Deakin and Miller. What Paladini had to do with the meeting I do not know. As for your comments I was not there, but they do not bear much resemblence to other reports.”
