Port Vale: Dons to unleash new signings
ABERDEEN are set to unleash new signings Scott Vernon and Yoann Folly in tonight's friendly at Vale Park.
The Scottish Premier League side snapped up 25-year-old Togo international Folly and former Colchester United midfielder Vernon, aged 26, yesterday.
Folly, who began his career at French side St Etienne, has been on trial with the Dons during pre-season.
Vernon, who netted 20 goals in 74 appearances for Oldham from 2002 to 2005, is also being pencilled in for his first start in an Aberdeen shirt at Vale Park tonight (7.30pm).
But former Stoke loanee Lee Hendrie will not feature.
The midfielder has spent time training with Aberdeen over pre-season, and Dons boss Mark McGhee is hopeful the former England player will eventually agree a permanent deal.
McGee said: "Yoann has been training with us and has done really well. I see a lot he can do that is positive for us.
"I have done my homework on him, as well as seeing him in training and the games.
"Scott is 6ft 2in. He will win headers, link the play, get in the box and will thrive on crosses.
"He has a decent scoring record and we hope he can bring that to the SPL.
"He is a lovely type of lad. I spoke to people who knew him well and he was recommended."
Aberdeen drew 1-1 draw at Tamworth on Saturday and, after tonight's encounter, face Brighton on Saturday.
McGhee admits he is expecting a tough encounter tonight.
"It is step up in terms of the quality of opposition," he said.
"They will be a decent standard and we are expecting a tough game. If we take it lightly we will be made to pay.
"This will be a good work out for us."
As well as Folly and Vernon, Aberdeen have already added Northern Ireland international defender Rory McArdle, midfielder Josh McGinnis and St Mirren goalkeeper Mark Howard to their squad.
McGhee is also hopeful of signing defender Robbie Williams, a free agent after being released by Huddersfield Town, and former Hearts and Celtic midfielder Paul Hartley, from Bristol City.
Aberdeen finished last season in ninth place in the SPL.
TICKETS for tonight's game can be bought on the gate.
Prices are £10 for adults and £5 for concessions. Under-nines are admitted for free.
