AFC WIMBLEDON are pulling out all the stops to make sure Thursday night's game against Port Vale beats the big freeze.

The Dons are desperate to make sure the clash, to be shown live on Sky, gets the green light and are enlisting the help of supporters.

They are appealing for volunteers to help clear the snow from the pitch and areas surrounding the Cherry Reds Records Stadium.

A club spokesman said: "We have this morning had a look at the pitch and, although there are currently two or three inches of snow lying on it, most areas underneath the surface are still soft.

"We therefore intend to keep the snow on the pitch until Wednesday. However, we then aim to clear the snow and apply covers to the pitch to combat overnight frost.

"The club is therefore looking for a large number of volunteers if they have any spare time on Wednesday to help us get the game on.

"Although we do have some tools, if volunteers can bring wheelbarrows, brushes or shovels with them then that will be a big help.

"In the meantime, we also need volunteers to help clear areas outside the ground."
