SWIMMERS are hoping to be back in their council-run pool next month after £100,000 of improvements.

The pool at Kidsgrove Sports Centre has been shut since November after heavy winds and rain damaged the roof.

Kidsgrove mayor Kyle Robinson, who is a town councillor and a borough councillor for the Butt Lane ward, said: "We have been promised that the pool will re-open in June.

"I think people in the town are really excited at the prospect because they have had to travel to use alternative pools."

The sports centre is owned by Staffordshire County Council and run by Newcastle Borough Council.

Mr Robinson added: "I just hope that the re-opening will be a big affair.

"Once some people have changed their routine it can be quite difficult to get them to come back."
