BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED LORRY: A police investigation has begun after a lorry transporting a wide load hit a bridge on the A500 in Stoke-on-Trent.

Part of the D-Road was closed for two hours following the accident yesterday afternoon.

Staffordshire Police said the incident happened at 1.05pm.

The HGV collided with a bridge on the south-bound carriageway close to Glebe Street in Stoke.

The busy road was closed, causing delays for motorists.

It was reopened shortly after 3pm. No-one was injured in the incident.

The spokesman said the vehicle was carrying a large tank being transported to be broken up.

He added: "Police are investigating the accident."

    “What is there to investigate?

A lorry driver tried to go under a bridge with a load that was higher than the bridge.

    Investigation concluded!”
