Police re-appeal for witnesses to road rage attack on A34 in Cannock

Despite widespread inquiries, Staffordshire Police have been unable to trace the offender who assaulted a 72-year-old motorist on the A34 in Cannock on Tuesday, May 1.

Officers are re-appealing for witnesses after a collision between a white panel van and the victim's red Citroen C3 near Cannock town centre, between 4.10pm and 4.15pm.

After the collision, the van driver got out of his vehicle and punched the Citroen driver, who is from Great Wyrley, in the face while he sat in his car. He then drove off.

The Citroen driver suffered minor injuries which were treated at hospital.

The driver of the van, which had a partial registration of BX54, is described as white, slim, aged in his late 30s, around 6ft tall with a shaved head.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or knows who he might be, should ring PC 4517 John Picken at Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 421 of 1 May. Alternatively, they can ring independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

    “This seems to be more common now, a 'brave knight' protecting his little bit of the road against an elderly man! I would suspect that 'white-van-man' had no insurance and was possibly to blame if he fled without exchanging details? Sooner he's caught the better.”
