Plants contract is up for grabs
FIRMS are bidding to supply summer bedding plants to Stoke-on-Trent City Council – just months after the authority shut its own nursery.
The council is looking for a firm to supply and deliver bedding plants and plant up troughs and containers.
The deal is needed after the council shut its Greenhouse 2000 nursery in October to save cash and avoid spending hundreds of thousands of pounds on refurbishments.
Figures show the Festival Park nursery lost £512,421 from April, 2007 to March, 2012.

It has been reported that the council will now be spending around £45,000-a-year buying in bedding plants.
A council report states: "The contract is necessary to ensure that the council is able to maintain the current high standards of seasonal bedding displays."
