PLANS have been drawn up to open an arts centre in a town.

Organisers estimate the Community Performance Arts Centre (CPAC) for Congleton will cost £24,000-a-year to operate.

It will provide a rehearsal and performance space, a base for arts groups and a coffee lounge.

Groups including Congleton Ballet School, MY Theatre and Film, and Bespoke Dance have already shown an interest in hiring the hall.

Jill Young, who is involved in the project, said: "This will be a fully-integrated performance arts centre housing rehearsal and performance space, changing and coffee lounge facilities.

"It will be open at an affordable cost with in-house professionals."

CAPC would like £500 funding from Congleton Town Council. The council's finance and policy committee will consider the application at meeting tonight.
