A SCHOOL has sent letters to parents urging them to report dog owners who don't clean up their pet's mess.

Werrington Primary School is supporting a council campaign to tackle dog fouling following a number of complaints of mess being spotted in the area.

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council has issued residents in Werrington with temporary signs which urge people to report dog owners.

The council has also teamed up with charity Blue Cross to deliver talks on how to be a responsible pet owner in a number of schools. Today children at Werrington Primary will enjoy such a session.

Councillor Gill Burton, portfolio holder for communities, said: "By the whole community pulling together with the district council's enforcement team, this problem can be tackled."

Since April the authority has issued £80 fines to 22 people who failed to clear up their dog's mess.
