WORRIED residents have been assured enforcement action is being considered against a mobile phone company at the centre of a planning wrangle over a half-built mast.

A delegation of householders from the Brookhouses area of Cheadle attended a meeting of the town council last night after an emergency motion was tabled about work started by Vodafone.

Residents fear the company will press ahead with the construction of a mast after planning chiefs failed to find an alternative location.

Police were called to Brookhouse Way last week after an attempt was made to connect electricity to the half-built structure.

Cheadle councillor Stephen Ellis, who has responsibility for planning and development on Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, last night denied claims by Vodafone that it had got planning permission. He pledged legal action would be considered against the company at Thursday's meeting of the district council's planning committee.

He told residents: "I am not happy with the way Vodafone has conducted itself and it will face the wrath of the district council."

“And i'm sure these residents will soon be complaining that they have no Signal in their home,.”
